Reflection 1.11

Sojourner Truth's interpretation of the old ways of conducting business is more of a direct way of getting your opinions heard. She puts herself out stating the things that she has lived doing, which mainly are tough physical "man" things, and ends her discussion with the question, "ain't I a woman?". She really makes a great point in defending her feminism. If she can do all those things as well or better than a man, doesn't that make her an equal of men?

  1. Like Ginger Rogers said about Fred Astaire: Why was he the star and I was just the "partner"? I did everything Fred did, only I had to do it backwards. And in high heels.

  2. I think this really brings into focus the idea of equality. What does it mean to be equal? Does it mean we can do the same things? perform the same way? Does this only apply to physical work or mental as well? Does it mean we should all have the same opportunity? Ms. Truth used a comparison of physical labor to state her opinion on the equality of men and women. How do you define equal?
