Reflection 1.1
My personal fantastic teacher persona requires me to be first and foremost, a caring, trustworthy person. Without trust, my students would find me inaccessible and a fantastic teacher is an individual who is accessible. I as a fantastic teacher would also hold my students accountable. Many students today lack a mentor who has enough weight in their lives to hold them accountable. This goes back to being an accessible educator.

Isn't it interesting how trust and accountability are linked? What a terrific relationship between students and teachers is possible when teachers are accessible and caring but also hold kids accountable for their own learning. So many people say parents are accountable when kids fail, or teachers are accountable when kids don't achieve in school--I think it is critical to remember that learners have accountability too.
ReplyDeleteYour idea of holding students accountable is important. I know that I often struggle with this concept, as I tend to hold myself accountable for someone's learning or ability to master a new skill. I am interested in what you mean by accessible. This is a great word and I would like to see you try to develop the idea further. Being trustworthy is an excellent point, and I think there is more that would help develop your personal philosophy.
